CLS Ferguson

Incomplete
Artwork by Krista C. Graham, Voodoo, pen and watercolor

Incomplete

Foundation laid, skeleton of wood waiting for metal or drywall
There's a crack in the concrete
But we've come this far
If I patch it, you may notice, if I don't, you'll fall through
The windows were meant for the walls, not the floor
Just another thing to swallow you whole
The moving truck is coming with all the baggage we couldn't bear to let go

We'll put it in storage until

           until

                        until

                                    until

So many untils we'll never get anything done

We'll forget to punish ourselves for all our wrongs
We'll squeeze too tightly to our broken mirrors
You were struggling to clean the dishes in this house I built for you
No running water, no counter space, no walls, no roof
Just the kitchen sink filled with dirty dishes
The crack in the foundation is spreading
But we've hung the pictures and made the bed
If anyone comes for dinner, do you suppose they'll mind the cracks their plates?
If we don't mend these cracks the lawn may grow through the floor
Perhaps no one will notice the crumbling foundation
I've bought a new area rug
